Wedding photographed under Bao Yang Photos, with edits by Isabel Sin Photography.

On May 2nd, I shadowed my second wedding with Bao Yang Photos in Hugo, MN.

Jennifer and Solomon got married. It was a big gathering of family and friends. It was so much fun.

Shooting with Maita

I spent most of the day shadowing Maita of Atiam Photography. She was the second shooter and I was a shadow shooter. We both photographed the groom - Solomon - and their friends. Watching how she works taught me a lot.

I was still nervous. It was a new location with different lighting than I'd shot in before. I also got to learn how to use flash at a wedding.

What I learned from the family photos

I didn't take the family portraits this time. Both sides had a big family with a lot of siblings. So I helped gather everyone instead. My job was to find the right people and line them up. I made sure everyone was ready for the next photo in the sequence.

That's where I learned something. If there's a list, it's much easier to swap people in and out.

Their friends had ideas.

Jennifer and Solomon's friends came with so many ideas for photos.

We did a superhero pose. They carried Solomon up in the air. They hid behind the trees and popped out.

Not everyone wants a fun pose all the time. I get that. But I love them, because they're the photos people laugh about later.

Planning a wedding in the Twin Cities?

I'm a documentary-style wedding photographer based in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. I shoot the real laughter and the real tears, then edit everything bright and true to color.

I photograph intimate weddings and elopements around the Twin Cities, East Metro, and west side of Wisconsin. If you have a big family, I'd suggest writing your family photo list ahead of time. It saves a lot of time on the day.

I'm grateful I got to be part of a Twin Cities wedding like this one. Thank you, Jennifer and Solomon.
